Another entry to the 2012 Oscars that is based
on true events is THE IMPOSSIBLE [the other 2 entries were "Argo" & "Zero Dark
Thirty", moreover "The Flight" was loosely inspired on true events but will not qualify
since the airplane crash had no survivors].
A family heavy drama about the Indian Ocean
tsunami in 2004 where the Bennet family, Henry (Ewan McGregor), Maria (Naomi
Watts) and their 3 sons Lucas (Tom Holland), Thomas (Samuel Joslin), &
Simon (Oaklee Pendergast) spent the holiday in Khao Lak, Thailand when the tidal
wave hit the place.
This is an account of a family’s survival from a
mayhem in Thailand – one of the world’s most natural catastrophic incident.
All the while I thought the movie is another version
of HereAfter (2010), a film that is also about the Indian Ocean tsunami in Thailand
with Matt Damon & Cecile de France produced & directed by Clint
Eastwood, but I was mistaken. While both movies have the same setting, the
genre is extremely opposite, HereAfter is a supernatural drama-fantasy.
The Impossible has many great touching moments yet
overwhelming and triumphant. The beauty of this film is organic and so natural.
I felt the pains, the courage, the sorrows, the struggles and the joys of every
character in this movie.
Obviously the shoot was entirely made in ASIA,
the film is near to reality – a movie that is close to our hearts.
