AMOUR
has 5 nominations in 2012 Oscars, Best Actress in the Leading Role, Best
Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best Picture and Best Foreign Film and took
the golden statue for the latter category.
AMOUR
deals with the golden days of a couple whose marriage reached for more than 75
years (I presume). With only one daughter (Isabelle Huppert) who is also a
musician as both Georges (Jean-Luis Trintignant) and Anne (Emmanuelle Reva) are
music teachers that lives far from them, a stroke attacked her mother that brought
chief challenge in the couples married life.
With
a towering performance of Emmanuelle Reva – that made her the oldest nominee in
Oscars for Best Actress – the film is very close to honesty and reality. I felt
the plot tackled the issue on coping and managing the suffering of a love one
depicted in a profound love and responsibility.
In
our local cinema, we have “Mamay Umeng” (2012), a Cinema One Originals
finalist, a movie that also deals with an old age awaiting for his death. I may
say that Anne and Umeng had the same feelings at certain point though their
condition may be different.
Younger
audience will need a longer patience to finish these films but there were
numerous precious scenes that you have to see. AMOUR’s
ending is a big revelation and moving, just saying.
AMOUR
has garnered various awards from different film festivals from Golden Globes, Cannes,
British, Europe, Dubai, Bodil, Bavarian, Critics Choice, Durban, Golden Reel
and in the US such as Ney York, Oklahoma, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles,
Toronto, Utah, Vancouver, Houston, Kansan, Chicago and many other award giving
bodies.
AMOUR
is really a TRIUMPH!
