My 2012 Top 25 Most Influential Directors in the Philippines


25.  The recipient of 2012 Cinema One Originals Lifetime Achievement Award to Peque Gallaga is  proof that he’s still on the race in the movie industry. His movie "Seduction" will be released in the 1st Quarter of 2013.

24.  Ato Bautista’s “Palitan” is a promising film, bold and daring.

23. Joel Lamangan is now more focussed on television with his “Valiente” & “Enchanted Garden” teleseryes but early next year he will start 2013 with his film written by Raquel Villavicencio’s “Menor de Edad.”

22. Tikoy Aguiluz is man of principles and his support to Filipino films echoed in all corners of our country.  His film "El Brujo" will be released this 2013. I love this guy!.
21. Richard Somes had made 3 important films this 2012, “Supremo”, “Corazon:Ang Unang Aswang” & “Mariposa sa Hawla ng Gabi”. Guys you should watch all these 3.

20. Eric Matti’s “TiKTiK:The Aswang Chronicles” have set a new record in the Philippine industry as the 1st film to be made thru green screen. He had another movie released this year, “Rigodon”.

19. Olivia Lamasan has made it this year with a blockbuster movie  of complexities with tearful tragedies of truncated romance, and I am referring to “The Mistress”. What’s next for 2013?

18. The giant blockbuster director Wenn Deramas has been on the right track with his comedy films released this year. Keep it up and more power!

17. Adolf Alix Jr. has many things to offer in the film industry, his movies this year are “Mater Dolorosa” & “Kalayaan” were much applauded. Sad to say “Ride To Love” wasn’t shown this year and his entries to the 38th MMFF were not included in the magic 8 selection, “My Prince Charming” & “Death March”.

16. The 2012 Cinemalaya New Breed Category gave Mes de Guzman his 1st Best Director citation for “Diablo”.

15. Will Fredo is another man to look forward to, very artistic and articulate, may he continue to empower women thru his coming films, for now his entry to the New Wave Specials of the 38th MMFF gave him the Most Gender Sensitive Film award for “In Nomine Matris” and Best Actress for Liza Dino in the lead cast.

14. Tyrone Acierto, an uprising director has grabbed the Best Director and Best Picture citations during the 38th MMFF New Wave Specials held at Meralco Theater for his zombie-centered movie “The Grave Bandits.”

13. Kevin Dayrit is this year’s Best Director in 2012 Cinema One Originals for his entry “Catnip”.

12.Baybayin” an Aureus Solito’s film will again be collecting recognitions abroad just like “Busong” I’m 100% sure on this.

11. The comeback of director Mike de Leon is much-awaited by everyone in the film industry. Will he be included in Cinemalaya Film Festival next year?
10. Chito Rono’s Literary Awards make him a remarkable director, his support to the new breed of writers and talents is solid. His 2012 blockbuster hit “The Healing” was screened here and abroad.

9. Joey Javier Reyes’ presence on&off the cam is noteworthy, from tv to film to theatre. So passionate about his craft and artistry, his entry “Mga Mumunting Lihim” at 2012 Cinemalaya garnered honors that adds prestige to his career.

8. Dante Nico Garcia has many A1 list on his records, aside from “Ploning”, this year his movie “Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi” set another record as the very first film to be simultaneously shown in the big screen and via online.

7. Paul Soriano may not be on the limelight but he had successfully headed the 38th MMFF’s Student Short Film, Cine Phone and New Wave Specials. Great job!. After “Thelma” what’s next?


6. Brillante Ma. Mendoza this year had been blessed with various laurels on his head. He had place the Philippine Cinema on the map of the Film Industry worldwide. His current movie “Thy Womb” made history here and abroad.

5. With full of visions, Ron Sapinoso is never tired of making short films as posted on his web channel, Ron Sapinoso Channel. He also conducts acting workshops to potential actors. His movie “Mangkukulob” [2012]  - a psycho-thriller is a Filipino film that has an original story.

4. Ralston Jover had never stop sharing his knowledge and talent by conducting numerous scriptwriting workshop to students all over the country. After “Bakal Boys”, I’m hoping that his new film with a working title “Dog Show” will hit the big screen with flying colours.

3. Tuxqs Rutaquio’s “Wag Kang Kukurap” is brilliantly new and highly researched-based contemporary play and we will be looking forward for his 2013’s “Ibalong [the musical]”.

2. A man named Jun Robles Lana has gone so far with so many ups and down in his career but this year “Bwakaw” has been recognized not only here but also in the international arena. Congrats direk! Looking forward to meet you.

1. Armando Lao’s 
works should be treasured. He is a genius mentor and has mastered his craft in all aspect. It will be an honor if I you will accept me as one of your students. God Bless and More Power!
