IBALONG: A World-Class Musical Stage Play of Tanghalang Pilipino

Rave reviews had been written about the adaptation of Bicolano epic fragment  IBALONG by Palanca playwright Rody Vera and under the visionary director and one of the 12 Movers & Shakers of Entertainment & Theater Industry in 2011, Tuxqs Rutaquio and I certainly agree with them. Watching IBALONG: The Musical is a whole new experience. Indeed the 26th Season of Tanghalang Pilipino productions had save the best for last.
From Walang Sugat to Walang Kukurap and Stage Show, IBALONG completes this season with numerous and grand clamor from the audience, be a theater fanatic or not.
More than anything, IBALONG in essence is a story of a father’s unconditional love to his son journeying from 3 generations while the wage war between mortals and monsters & beasts took place. This is aside from an unusual lovestory of  a warrior, Handyong and a serpentine creature, Oryol conquering all the obstacles in their quest for true happiness.
IBALONG is a reflection of progress and destruction, good vs. evil, love & deceit,  right and wrong and most of all, the word that most of us don’t understand “co-existence”.

I felt the intensity of every actor on stage, Jenine Desiderio and May Bayot’s powerful voice are moving, Jonathan Tadiong and Renus Villanueva’s performance were remarkable. And the rest of the cast were outstanding especially, Delhine Buencamino,  Jovanni Cadag & Ralph Mateo (well, I saw them in Walang Kukurap another Tuxqs Rutaquio’s masterpiece from playwright Layeta Bucoy).

Every act was spectacular and every production was superb and awesome.  I may also give credits to the musical scoring and compositions which is melodious and the tempo is suited from the start to finish. The costume used was amazing and truly a work o f art. And the fighting scenes were breath-taking.  All aspects were outstanding and I’m proud to say that this is truly a world-class.

And let me say that I am now  a fan of the genius man behind this play, no other than the director himself, Tuxqs Rutaquio – I salute you!

IBALONG: The Musical is the 2013 Best Musical Stage Play of the Year.  IBALONG: It's More Fun In The Philippines.
