MAINDIE REVIEW: U're Choice - A Decision. AMOROSA: The Revenge

T'is a horror season for the Philippine movie industry, the local productions are bombarding the viewers with suspense-thriller, suspense-drama, & horror-comedy elements type of movies.

2011 ended and 2012 started with
Segunda-Mano which was an entry to MMFF, followed by Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang, then Chito Roño's The Healing, right now Guni-Guni is still showing and finally we have AMOROSA: The Revenge.

AMOROSA, intrigue the viewers, by it's title alone it provides a lot of notions as to what is the movie all about.

I tell you, this is a movie you should watch before the 3rd quarter ends as TIKTIK: Aswang Chronicles is another movie to look forward to in the following weeks.

AMOROSA: THE REVENGE is a psychological suspense-drama film about a mother with two kids, Amiel & Rommel. Rosa, as her desired name was confronted with an array of choices in life. Whether the situation was tough or not, decision has to be made, and this is the main plot of the film.

For me, I commend well aside from Rosa (Angel Aquino) who showcased a very fine acting, I would applaud Enrique Gil's acting prowess here as Rommel, the surviving son who had suffered emotional distress but was overcome by his love for his mother.  Basically, the characters in the story were all given the decision they have to made in life. And this is something that every person needs to know.

The script is solidly written and has its' own right to create a scenario that would make the audience agree to what had happened, hopeless and restless. But there is always hope that ignites - this is the promise the story gave. I perceived that there were two parts of the story as revelations were presented, one was the idea of unconditional love of a mother to her children and second, the love of a son to his mother.

Life will always provide you with choices,no matter how helpless and restless one is, still a decision has to be made. The drive to live even if life offers a lot of challenges still one's faith and determination exudes as there is always hope while one lives.

My question is, will you watch this film or not? The choice is yours.

A MOTHERS' DAY TRIBUTE: BRAVE: A Tribute to Mothers & Mothers To Be

Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, Anastacia and other princesses known all over the world embraced the new Disney-Pixar Princess – with a marvelous hair, perfect body figure and of course suitors who dare to win her heart – may I present to you, MERIDA.

Brave – a different fairytale story of a princess in the absence of a prince (what?) yup, you heard it right, without a prince. This is a story of a princess who take a different path of life. She has a horse, a concise skill in archery and mountain climbing.

I’m 100% sure you have not missed this new animated movie – BRAVE – who wouldn’t?

Well, I have read a lot of reviews and comments, but I would like to shift my thoughts on a different perspective on published write-ups.

Brave – has an unusual story of a mother and daughter relationship. As Merida and her mother, the Queen had conflict in many ways still her father, the King has it’s own share in the story together with her three cute little brothers who love cupcakes. Like any other home, a mother always protects her children, Queen Elinor as a disciplinarian wishes to prepare her daughter for the challenges in the future however like most teens do, ignore, and contradict.

Merida gets what she wants, do what she likes and will pursue the things she desires no matter what. And that’s where she bumped into the witch spell, she bargained more than what she wanted and never expected the outcome – her mother turned into a bear – a turning point of her relationship with the Queen, reboot – back to square 1.

We heard daughters’ rivalry, brothers’ clashing, parents’ war – now we have this story that captured not only the hearts of the daughters but also every mother and mothers to be.

The playdate of BRAVE seemed to become a post-Mothers’ Day Celebration to every family. As BRAVE brought tears and laughters to it’s viewers it also open the door to understand our mothers – the essence of being strict and strong-willed and to daughters to embrace the teachings that mothers’ instilled them.

There are many values one can get from the movie, for me open communication and respect is essential especially at home. BRAVE effectively showcased the beauty of emotional bond between mothers and daughters.

Disney-Pixar Production has just produced another film that would be included  in the ranks of our all time favorite princesses stories.

Madonna and child.
Mother and daughter.                 Queen and Princess.
Elinor and Merida.
BRAVE.

ASIAN MOVIE REVIEW: SADAKO: The Ring 3 - Original Sequel

The Advance Screening of Sadako The Ring 3: Original Sequel was held at SM Cinema Marikina Branch last August 6, Wednesday at Cinema 1, 8:00PM.
The night was filled with excitement despite the heavy rain pouring outside while we we’re screaming inside the theater. Really, the last installment of this movie still has the elements of suspense & horror – a lot of it.
Akane Ayukana, a high school teacher with telekinetic power together with her future husband Takanori were fatefully drawn in the “cursed video clip” about the actual footage of Kashiwada’s suicide which was uploaded in the world-wide web and anyone who sees it will likewise commit suicide.
Kashiwada intended to resurrect the devilish Sadako and her curse by searching for the perfect body she can consume.
“If you just don’t get it, then you don’t get it – you’re not the one.” The plot of the story branched out from the previous films but this time it has adapted the advanced technology of this generation. Sadako is now coming out from iPhone, LED/LCD tv, pc monitors and most of all, can be access on the internet.
This is where the horror ends. SADAKO had finally met her match – AKANE – she’s the one. Creepiness bathed the viewers that night, frightened one’s scream while others can’t just go to the bathroom without a companion.
The Ring 3 has been improved a lot when it comes to the quality, clearness and clarity of the picture – way far behind from it’s previous releases. However on the technical aspect, I felt that it was too obvious for some scenes – was too digital/computerized in the making unlike the 1st 3 movies that you would feel the terror as the graphics seemed to be realistic and refined. But there were many new scenes that amazed and shocked the audience and to mention them would be a spoiler (too bad for me),  maybe because it’s not Hideo Nakata who directed the film. Sad to say, only half of the story has been devoted to the original plot.
I like the terror it brought us, as you watched the film the horror progresses and the transition is swift that you don’t want to miss a scene. The actors were telegenic that it balances the movie’s horrifying composition. Their acting may not be that remarkable but they have the looks to be on the big screen.
“I must admit, I am a massive fan of Asian horror and I like the fright it brought to viewers, the boldness and courage to take risks in making horror films to a different level.”

SADAKO  has full of F’s. Fear, Fright, Furiband, and Frigorific.

If you want to experience an unusual thriller this week, try watching this film. Screaming is free of charge.

I’m telling you, You’re Not The One, if you miss this film.

          It’s Showtime!.

PREMIERE NIGHT: A Sneak Peak at THE HEALING

Star Cinema’s newest movie before the 2nd quarter ends created a commotion in the Philippine Cinema. WHY? Because for the 1st time in the history of Philippine movies - a film shown nationwide has 2 MTRCB Rating; an R-13 and R-18.

I must truly admit that I was terrified by this movie well after “Feng Shui“, this is something that movie fanatics must never miss to watch.

The plot is outstandingly suited for the film as the screenplay was remarkably edited for better understanding of story transition and presentation

The terror escalates from 0 to 10, as the story reaches its’ climax, the horror ascends tremendously with a lot of revelations and twists. Cinematography exudes and scene angles magnify each act. Director Chito Roño will carve in your minds a new taste of suspense – escalating thrills as if you’re riding a roller coaster.

Colin and Derek Chito Roño
On the lighter side, I would suggest to bring your partner/buddy to watch this film, well, at least you have a knight in shining armour that you can embrace, pinch, and hold on while the movie takes your breath away Don’t worry, THE HEALING balances the horrifying scenarios with comedy so viewers won’t experience a heart attack syndrome.

The time you devoted and the money you spent in watching “THE HEALING” is worth it. For me, The Healing ranks 2nd in my Top 5 list of Most Horrifying Film in the Philippine Cinema. Opps. Don’t peep. Watch this, after all, movies are made to entertain us. The HEALING still SHOWING in all theaters nationwide

Robinsons’ Mall are in R-18 version (Director’s Cut) while SM CINEMAS’ are in R-13. Ayala Malls (Greenbelt, & Trinoma) are in R-13. Cinema 2000 (Shangri-La, WalterMart & Easwood Cinemas) are in R-13  & New Port Cinemas & Lucky China Town in R13 ratings, & Gateway Cinemas in R18 version.

HOLIDAY : August 21 is Ninoy Aquino Day

Yesterday I was glancing at my calendar desk blankly and was marking specific dates for the rest of the year. I haven't thought that 21st of August.is a Special Non-Working Holiday which means "no classes for students" and another day has been added into the long weekend to government employees including teachers.

It was also yesterday that I decided to buy Ninoy-Cory design t-shirts for my bestfriends and for me of course. Unconsciously, I ran to a Bench store near my office and check if this shirt design is still available,
and there were at least a dozen of them with broken sizes. Since my bestfriend Carl Garcia did not reply on pm @ FB I decided to get the medium and for Jay Paul Ruiz semi-fit medium (mind you there were only two medium sizes and I got them - yahooo!!!) and since the rest of the sizes were XXL and XL, I scanned the hanged displays for more and I found a small size so I was fortunate to purchase all three. Mission accomplished. (BTW - these two are all working abroad, Carl is settled in Virginia, USA while Paul is working in Doha, Qatar).

Today as I woke up early, I wore the shirt that I bought and to my surprise a guard greeted me with "Happy Ninoy Day!" that me smile and paused - yeah it's Ninoy Aquino Day and it's a Holiday.

Yes, today is Ninoy Aquino Day as mandated by Republic Act 9492. And so? Do we care? What is important is, it's a holiday and time for bonding - family and friends - nothing more, nothing less. A simple reminder is that, today is the 29th anniversary of Ninoy when a single bullet ended his life while he was descending from an airplane's gangway at Ninoy Aquino International Airport whom by that time was guarded by several military agents.

We all knew who Ninoy was and if not would it be sarcastic if I say, "google him at wikepedia," I think not.

Happy Ninoy Day!

OPEN LETTER : To Mr. Tony Gilroy

Dear Mr. Gilroy,

I was very much disappointed on your answer on Charlie Rose' question on "why Manila fulfilled what you needed to make THE BOURNE LEGACY."

Again and I quote "...and we went to Manila and it felt so Bourne-ish. It's just so colorful and UGLY and GRITTY and RAW and STINKY and CROWDED."

Did you hear what you just said? Let's review some of the videos about MY COUNTRY - PHILIPPINES if it is UGLY.

and GRITTY

and RAW

and STINKY

and CROWDED.

Now tell me and the whole world whose lying and whose not. You're a big disappointment. Aren't you happy you were welcomed in MY COUNTRY wholeheartedly. The traffic you caused, the delays you made. You must be banned in our country.

But let me tell you that you made a great movie in our country for THE BOURNE LEGACY - but I suggest, never come back to our land.

May God always guide you in all your endeavors.

Respectfully yours,

Colin

TYPHOON: HABAGAT 2012

August 2012 marked another history in the Philippines disastrous history as habagat monsoon brought flood., great flood in Metro Manila.
When I saw EDSA along Quezon City all the way to Caloocan City, I thought it was a lake.
No PUJs. No bus. Just garbage - lots of it floating like mushrooms that kept on popping everywhere.

Why are we being flooded? even if it is only a monsoon not a typhoon?

As I see it, the sea level is increasing as the years passes by and some areas here in Manila have soft soil like Malabon, Navotas, Maynila and Caloocan.
Well, Laguna Bay is like a bath tub without an outlet to drain it's excess water. If the bath tub is full the water has no passage to avoid spilling. So where will the water go? Obviously to the floor.

Mother's Nature fierce in the form of a monsoon is part of our weather and there's no escape on this.
All we need to do is prepare and plan.
To fight against her is foolishness but to prevent a collateral damage from her fierce is a wise thing to do.

THE TRUTH & NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH: So It's True: I'm Speechless on his Speech

Sotto's anti-RH speech copied from US blogger? Sotto doesn't think so

August 15, 2012 11:07pm
(Updated Aug. 16, 11:45 a.m.) - Sen. Tito Sotto's emotional story on the Senate floor last Monday about the death of his son may have come from his heart, but at least one lengthy passage from his speech came from someone else's blog.
Sotto's description of the purported ill effects of birth control pills on unborn children was lifted nearly word for word from the blog of "Sarah, the healthy home economist," a US-based writer who alsoopposes vaccines for children and offers recipes for goodies like grain-free pumpkin cookies.

Sotto did not attribute any of his words or research to "Sarah, the healthy home economist," whosedisclaimer cautions that "the nutritional and other information on this website are not intended to be and do not constitute health care or medical advice."

The connection to "Sarah, the healthy home economist" was first exposed by Alfredo Melgar on the blog Filipino freethinkers.

'What plagiarism?'
But on Thursday, Sotto belied claims that he had plagiarized part of his Turno En Contra speech against the Reproductive Health (RH) bill.
In a phone interview with reporters, Sotto explained that this was the first time he had heard of the blogger cited by Filipino Freethinkers.
Sotto said it seems both he and the blogger quoted from the book of Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride, whom he cited in his speech.
Sotto also said that he always says in his speeches that the information he cites do not come from him.
"I always say a blanket disclosure these are not from me, ano plagiarism dun?" he said.

Comparison
Here is a comparison of Sotto’s speech and Sarah’s blog:
1. Sotto’s speech (from second to last paragraph):
“According, to Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride MD, the use of the pill also causes severe gut dysbiosis. What is worse, drug induced gut imbalance is especially intractable and resistant to treatment either with probiotics or diet change.”
Sarah’s blog:
“According, to Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride MD, use of other drugs such as the Pill also cause severe gut dybiosis. What’s worse, drug induced gut imbalance is especially intractable and resistant to treatment either with probiotics or diet change.”
2. Sotto’s speech:
“Gut imbalance brought on through use of the pill negatively impacts the ability to digest food and absorb nutrients. As a result, even if a woman eats spectacularly well during pregnancy, if she has been taking oral contraceptives for a period of time beforehand, it is highly likely that she and her baby are not reaping the full benefits of all this healthy food as the lack of beneficial flora in her gut preclude this from occurring.”
Sarah’s blog:

3. Sotto’s speech:
“Pathogenic, opportunistic flora that take hold in the gut when the pill is used constantly produce toxic substances which are the by-products of their metabolism. These toxins leak into the woman’s bloodstream and they have the potential to cross the placenta. Therefore, gut dysbiosis exposes the fetus to toxin.”

4. Sotto’s speech:
“Not well known is also the fact that use of the pill depletes zinc in the body. Zinc is called 'the intelligence mineral' as it is intimately involved in mental development.”

Today, our family celebrates the natal day of a mother who loved us unconditionally.
A Mother and A Father. A Sister and A Brother.
A Mentor and A Friend. A Counselor and Adviser.
A Teacher and A Role Model.
Nanay Conching, I Love You Very Much.
Thank you for everything that you have done to us.
You are always by our side, no matter what.
Again, Happy Birthday!
May everything that you're heart desires come true.

MTRCB RATINGS: R13 & R18 The Expendables 2

Expect pure action from an ensemble cast of veteran actors in Hollywood.
THE EXPENDABLES 2 is an action-packed movie with two MTRCB Ratings,                                       an R-13 and R-18 versions.

And for the information of everybody, the character named Bill The Kid is Liam Hemsworth
not Chris Hemsworth (yes, they're brothers). Majority is confused, again it's Liam not Chris.

Sylvester Stallone is Barney Ross
Sylvester Stallone is Lee Christmas
Jet Li is Yin Yang
Dolph Lundgren is Gunner Jensen
Chuck Norris is Booker
Bruce Willis is Church
Terry Crews is Hale Ceasar
Randy Couture is Toll Rod
Liam Hemsworth is Bill The Kid
Scott Adkins is Hector
Nan Yu is Maggie

The sad part is that some Bulgarians and even citizens of Mindanao had a campaign to boycott this movie as there were millions of bats killed during their shooting in Bulgaria cave. Bulgarians claimed that it has not compensated the financial assistance received from the collateral damage it made. You'd be the judge.

The movie is not a blockbuster. (sad)
